Las Vegas Hotels

Las Vegas Hotels

Let’s talk Vegas hotels! If you’ve never stayed in Vegas before you will be pleasantly surprised at how nice of a room you can get here for your money. Compared to hotels around the world, Vegas gives the most value for the money because the hotels have GAMING. Even the cheapest hotel rooms here will be nice, clean, and comfortable and the most expensive ones will be extraordinary!

In general, make reservations in advance for your room. We recommend looking at the hotel site for specials and booking directly with the hotel if possible. If you can get a great rate on a bargain hotel website that works on some levels, but you have no power when you actually get to the hotel. If you book through the property, you have more negotiation power at the front desk. Vegas is a tipping town and we have heard many tales of how an extra $20 can get you a great room on the spot. Don’t be afraid to ask to see a diagram or a map of the layout and ask what the views are from each area. In Vegas hotels some rooms have great views of the strip whereas others right across the hall may have a view of the highway. Don’t be afraid to ask–many times the rooms are the same price. We have found that the squeaky wheel gets the oil in hotel check-in land!

Our reviews in this section mainly focus on strip resorts or near strip properties since that is where visitors are more likely to stay. These properties all have casinos which equates to a better room for the money. If you are not a gambler there are other places to stay but you will not get such a good deal. No one will make you gamble even if you stay on a strip property. BUT if you do gamble, get a player’s card before you start and accumulate points towards comps. At most casino hotels gamblers are still rewarded with a comped room. Ask at the player’s club how long you need to play to get a room or a food comp and they will try to give you a general idea of the rules.

Las Vegas hotels are generally well equipped. Even it is not listed on our review you can assume that all Vegas rooms will have hair products, hair dryers, ironing boards, and safes.  If you forget your tooth brush or a razor call housekeeping to see if they will supply the item. If you absolutely need a coffee pot or a refrigerator in your room housekeeping may provide these for the asking as well. The rooms in the more plush properties have snack bars and /or mini-bars. Be careful with mini-bars as the newer ones all work with sensors so if you take something out to look at and return it to the fridge, you will get charged. So, get down on your knees and let your eyes do the shopping before you start grabbing! Also, most resorts have 24 hour room service and, for the most part, it’s fairly reliable and tasty.

The hotels we have listed are divided into groups.

  • Strip hotels are usually full-service resorts right on the strip—about a 10 minute cab ride from the airport.
  • Near strip hotels are usually smaller resorts that are within a couple of miles from the strip and NOT within walking distance to the strip unless you are a power walker.
  • Downtown Las Vegas is about a 15-20 minute ride from the airport (depending on traffic) and local hotels could be as far as 20-30 minutes from the airport. If you stay off of the strip you most surely will want to have a vehicle to get around.
