Hosts

Free Perks

Free Perks

If you come to Vegas to gamble and haven’t taken advantage of using a host, you are probably missing out on some perks or “comps” that you might have coming for being a “player.” Even if you’re not a big player, it’s a good idea to establish relationships with hosts at the top casinos where you like to play.

Let’s talk about what a host does for you. Basically, the host is available to help you navigate the “system” at the property where they are employed. They act as a host to maximize your comfort and satisfaction at their hotel or resort–they are somewhat like a concierge with more power!  A host can be found by asking at the players club or simply calling the property and asking for a host on duty. Most resorts have a host on duty from about 8am until midnight.

Hosts are also there to work with you on “comps.” If you use a player’s card, your gambling hours can be evaluated by your host to see if you qualify for anything “free” as a gift from the casino. Free gifts could be free rooms, free food, free show tickets, free spa days, etc.We know of even penny players getting offers for food and rooms so don’t assume you would qualify for nothing.

However, the largest mistake that gamblers make is thinking they have more coming to them than they do. We also see a lot of sore losers arguing with hosts for more freebies–this practice is generally futile.

There is a great way to interact with your host. Be positive and grateful for what you get and don’t be threatening or demanding. If you are dissatisfied with service from your host at one location you can always try another property to see if they will accommodate you as you see fit.

If you have a great host it is a good idea to give them a gift every now and then. Although tipping is supposedly not allowed, it happens all the time in the form of money or gifts. We have seen everything from a monetary compensation every visit to a holiday gift at the end of the year. Again, tipping isn’t mandatory, it’s just a good idea if you want to maximize your comps. Host do have a certain amount of discretion to open doors for you.

Just like anything else, there are good hosts and bad hosts. Some are just around as window dressing and others really do seem to care. A good host, at times, can make the difference between a great trip and a flop–so the good ones deserve recognition. On this page we will begin adding profiles of good hosts who go out of their way to be helpful and friendly. If you have a great host and would like to share, let us know so we can feature him or her on our host page.
