Getting Around
Vegas is such an easy place to get around that many tourists don’t even bother to rent a car. In fact, if you just want to hang around the strip, you really don’t need a car. With taxis, shuttles, buses, monorail, and limo services, there is no shortage of public transportation for visitors. When you arrive at the airport, there are plenty of taxis waiting and the ride to mid strip is only 7-10 minutes. If you are getting picked up by a local at the airport, what we do is have the travelers call us when the plane touches down and its perfect timing to drive from home and pick up the visitors at passenger pick-up. Here is a small list of transportation choices in Las Vegas.
Taxi Services
Ace/ABC Union /Vegas Western Cab Co—702-736-8383
Desert Cab Co—702-386-9102
Lucky Cab Co—702-477-7555
Whittlesea/Blue Cab Co—702-384-6111
Yellow/Checker/Star Cab Co—702-873-2000
Hint on taxi drivers: it’s only really a short taxi ride down the strip IF traffic is light. When traffic is particularly heavy like on a Friday or Saturday, if you don’t care to see the strip, ask your cab driver to take Paradise or Frank Sinatra Dr. instead of Las Vegas Blvd. It’s best to mention this to the driver before he even starts rolling. We always say: “We’re not tourists so take us the fastest way, we don’t need to see the strip!” Our experience is that the drivers will take the strip unless you be specific that you don’t want that. We even had one driver totally ignore us and take the strip ANYWAY. Taking an alternate route can save you time and quite a bit of money, but if you want to stare at the sights and lights of the strip, take your time and enjoy!

Mandalay Bay, Luxor, and the Excalibur are also connected by a free monorail
If you stay at a Harrah’s property there is a free shuttle bus running between their largest resorts. MGM Mirage properties do not provide shuttle service.
Walking
You can walk up and down the strip to casino hop but remember that the resorts are huge and it will be a long and slow walk from say, Mandaly down to Bellagio and much farther say to the Venetian. The walk can be slow because there are thousands of other tourists with the same ideas as you. The casinos have put up great crosswalks with moving sidewalks that cut some of the time off the walks, and they are very safe! Stay away from trying to cross the strip outside of the crosswalks. People get killed by crazy drivers here every year trying to do just that. Wear weather appropriate clothing and some good, comfortable shoes.
